Do not plant in black containers. Strawberries are a cool season crop, and any additional heat to their roots, especially during a hot spell, can be lethal.
If you are experiencing a hot spell, pre-freeze some water bottles/two liter bottles, depending on the side of your you plants. Put these frozen water bottles around the center of your plant when it’s particularly hot outside or inside.
Will grow in almost any well-drained soil and even heavy clay soil. Can grow in almost any pH soil. Is not picky on the amount of sun it receives, however it prefers moist soil.2
Sow in containers with no holes in the bottom. While the general rumor is that strawberries are exceptionally hard to germinate from seed, this is largely due to the small size of the strawberry seeds and ease of these seeds being washed away during the watering process.
Pick fruit when red. Can be eaten raw or used in jams, syrups, etc.
