How to grow Coneflower 'Sundown'

  • Full Sun

  • Low

Sundown likes a position of full sun and remember to apply water fairly sparingly. Keep in mind when planting that Sundown is thought of as half hardy, so protect with a row cover whenever the temperatures drop. Sundown requires a soil ph of 6.0 - 8.0 meaning it does best in weakly acidic soil - weakly alkaline soil.

Growing Sundown from seed

Try to aim for a seed spacing of at least 1.95 feet (60.0 cm) and sow at a depth of around 0.2 inches (0.5 cm). Soil temperature should be kept higher than 25°C / 77°F to ensure good germination.

By our calculations, you should look at sowing Sundown about 56 days before your last frost date.

Transplanting Sundown

Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Sundown is a half hardy plant.
