Beautiful understory tree, shade tolerant, relatively short lived (15-20 yrs).
Will appreciate some mulching away from the trunk in order to help retain moisture.3
Low germination rate. Seeds must be collected early, soaked in sulfuric acid for 10-20 minutes then stratified for 30-60 days.
Alternative method is to collect seeds in winter, then soak them in almost-but-not-actually boiling water (180-190C) for 1 minute, then plant immediately. Pretty good germination rates.
Ensure a seed sowing distance of 24.76 feet (7.62 metres).Seedlings may be found around parents and are easily transplanted when small.
Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Eastern Redbud is a hardy plant.Collect seed pods early to avoid weevils. Collect more then you need due to low germination.
OR collect seed pods late so the seeds are exposed to cold (aids germination), and just collect tons of them.

The twigs can make a yellow dye when boiled in water. The flowers are edible, and the bean pods are edible as well once they have been properly processed (boiled multiple times). Reportedly was a food source for the Cherokee Indians.
The leaves are eaten by the caterpillars of some Lepidoptera, for example the Io moth (Automeris io).2
