How to grow Leek 'Tadorna'

Hilling soil against the plants will blanch the stems, resulting in a longer white shaft which is used in cooking.

Position in a partial sun location and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Tadorna is thought of as very hardy, so this plant will tend to survive through freezing conditions.

Growing Tadorna from seed

Exclude light to aid germination.

Try to aim for a seed spacing of at least 0.39 inches (1.0 cm) and sow at a depth of around 0.78 inches (2.0 cm). Soil temperature should be kept higher than 16°C / 61°F to ensure good germination.

Transplanting Tadorna

Mke hole with dibber 6 in/15cm deep and place plant into each hole then fill with water. DO NOT FILL HOLE WITH SOIL

Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Tadorna is a very hardy plant.

Harvesting Tadorna

This is a long-season winter leek, so the harvest will be in late fall or winter when the stems are thick. Baby leeks can be harvested throughout the season as you thin plants to the correct spacing.

This variety tends to be ready for harvesting by mid winter.
