Prune out the old canes that have fruited, to the ground, as you take off the last berries. At the same time tie in the new strong growth that has been produced this season.

Try to plant in a location that enjoys partial sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Malling Admiral is thought of as hardy, so Malling Admiral will tend to go dormant or grow slowly over the winter months. Ensure your soil is clay and has a ph of between 5.7 and 6.0 as Common raspberry is a weakly acidic soil loving plant.

Growing Malling Admiral from seed

New plants are best made from suckers thrown by existing canes

Try to ensure a gap of at least 1.62 feet (50.0 cm) when sowing to prevent overcrowding your seedlings.

Transplanting Malling Admiral

Plant out at least 30cm apart contained with wires stretches between posts. The canes will grow tall and need to be looped onto the wire and tied with string

Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Malling Admiral is a hardy plant.

Harvesting Malling Admiral

Large dark berries heavy cropper. If you don’t have many canes collect them in the deep freeze to have sufficient to make jam or ice cream

This variety tends to be ready for harvesting by late summer.
