How to grow Purple Heart

Setcreasea pallida

Needs light. If it gets too dark the color will fade and will not return until conditions improve. Needs to be renewed from time to time with cuttings. Once the plants are growing well pinch the top shoots so the stems branch out.

Best leaf color is achieved in full sun, but some shade is tolerated. Give purple heart a place in well-drained soil. Root rot occurs if the soil is too wet. Cut back or remove dead foliage in early spring before new growth begins. Fertilize lightly at the beginning of the growing season with a slow-release fertilizer. Trim as needed to keep in bounds.1
