Japanese wisteria 'Royal purple'

Wisteria floribunda

How to grow Japanese wisteria 'Royal purple'

  • Full Sun

  • Medium

During the growing season, train and tie in the selected stems to form the main framework
Prune the whippy growth to 4 or 5 buds from main stem after flowering in mid summer
Prune again to 2 buds when the plant is dormant in mid winter, to form flowering spurs.

Plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Royal purple is thought of as hardy, so it can be safe to leave outdoors for the majority of winter (although if in doubt, using a row cover is often a good idea). Ideally plant in loamy, clay and potting mix soil and try to keep the ph of your soil between the range of 5.6 and 6.0 as Royal purple likes to be in weakly acidic soil.
