How to grow Annual Mallow 'Mont Blanc'

  • Full Sun

  • Medium

Lavatera seeds can be direct sown where they are to stay since the seeds are big enough. Sow thinly, 1/4in. in drills, 12in. apart. Soil should be well cultivated and raked well. Regular watering is required. When easy to handle, thin to 12in. apart.1

Plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Mont Blanc is thought of as tender, so remember to wait until your soil is warm and the night time temperature is well above freezing before moving outside.

Growing Mont Blanc from seed

Sow in trays lightly cover seeds with vermiculite. Place in plastic bag and germinate at 20c for 15 to 21 days

Try to aim for a seed spacing of at least 11.7 inches (30.0 cm) and sow at a depth of around 0.12 inches (0.3 cm). Soil temperature should be kept higher than 20°C / 68°F to ensure good germination.

Transplanting Mont Blanc

Pot on when large enough to handle. Plant out after hardening off for about 15 days after frost has passed.

Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Mont Blanc is a tender plant.
