Gros michel is a variety of Banana plant which is a member of the Musa family. Its botanical name is Musa 'Gros michel'. Gros michel is a variety of hybrid Banana plant .

The former major commercial variety before Panama disease wiped out the plantations and Cavendish was put into production to replace it. Gros Michel now only survives in Thailand where it is known as Kluai hom thong and in private collections.

Not recommended for growing in Southern Florida due to Panama disease being epidemic there.
