To produce fruit Bartlett pears need to be planted near another European pear tree, such as “Bosc,” for pollination.

Plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Bartlett is thought of as hardy, so this plant will survive close to or on freezing temperatures. Ensure your soil is loamy and has a ph of between 6.0 and 7.0 as European pear is a weakly acidic soil to neutral soil loving plant.

Extremely susceptible to fire blight. No cure for fire blight, plant at least a half-mile from cedar trees.

Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Bartlett is a hardy plant.

Harvesting Bartlett

Yellow when completely ripe. However can be picked green late in the autumn and fruit will ripen off the tree.

This variety tends to be ready for harvesting by mid autumn.
