Growing Gartford Giants from seed

Sow direct into finely raked, moist, warm, weed free soil where the plants are to flower at a depth of 6mm, raking the seed in slightly. Germination will take around 14 – 21 days. Can also be sown in Autumn in a seedbed and transferred to flowering positions the following spring.

Just press the seeds into the surface of the soil, sprinkle a small amount of sand or vermiculite over them, and spritz to moisten.

Transplanting Gartford Giants

Thin seedlings as necessary allowing approx. 30 – 38cm between plants and removing any competing weeds.

As Gartford Giants is hardy, ensure temperatures are mild enough to plant out - wait until after your last frost date to be on the safe side.
