How to grow Iris 'Bold Print'

  • Full Sun

  • Medium

Divide clump after a few years. Rhizomes are ripened by the sun if exposed on the soil surface and this promotes good flowering

Try to plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Bold Print is thought of as hardy, so this plant will survive close to or on freezing temperatures. A soil ph of between 6.1 and 7.8 is ideal for Bold Print as it does best in weakly acidic soil - weakly alkaline soil.

Growing Bold Print from seed

Seeds may not come true. It is easier and quicker to flower from rhizome cuttings made after flowering in the summer.

Try to aim for a seed spacing of at least 1.19 inches (3.05 cm) and sow at a depth of around 0.99 inches (2.55 cm).

Transplanting Bold Print

Prefers a well drained hot and sunny site. Plant with the rhizome on the soil surface. Water in well.

As Bold Print is hardy, ensure temperatures are mild enough to plant out - wait until after your last frost date to be on the safe side.

Harvesting Bold Print

Iris does not last long as a cut flower, cut as the colour begins to show in the bud

This variety tends to be ready for harvesting by early summer.
