How to grow Rose 'Tropicana'

  • Partial Sun

  • Medium

Keep soil moist to the touche for the first two weeks after planting, then add water as needed. Feed with a season long balanced fertilizer once leaves start to show. Mulch with organic matter to conserve water, improve soil and reduce weeds. Spray with fungicide and insecticide as needed. Prune to remove dead canes and spent blooms. Every spring cut rose bush cane back by 1/3 to 1//2. To protect the plant from extreme temperature changes during the winter months cover the rose with 8 to 10 inches of mulch or soil.

Plant in a location that enjoys partial sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Tropicana is thought of as hardy, so it can be safe to leave outdoors for the majority of winter (although if in doubt, using a row cover is often a good idea). Ideally plant in loamy soil and try to keep the ph of your soil between the range of 4.5 and 8.0 as Tropicana likes to be in moderately acidic soil to weakly alkaline soil.

Growing Tropicana from seed

Aim to sow 0.25 inches (0.64 cm) deep and try to ensure a gap of at least 3.96 feet (1.22 metres).

By our calculations, you should look at sowing Tropicana about 35 days before your last frost date.

Transplanting Tropicana

Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Tropicana is a hardy plant.
