Try to plant in a location that enjoys partial sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Rose Edouard is thought of as hardy, so this plant will survive close to or on freezing temperatures. Rose Edouard needs a loamy soil with a ph of 5.5 to 7.0 (weakly acidic soil to neutral soil).

As a hybrid variety, this plant will not reliably grow true to type from seed.

This rose was called ‘Bengale Neuman’ after its introducer by Péan, ‘Rose de l’Ile de France’ by Dubreuil, ‘Rose de Bourbon à fleurs pleines’ by Prévost and ‘Bengale Dubreuil’ by Vibert. ¹

Perhaps the first Bourbon…The rose cultivated in India as R. borboniana is actually ‘Rose Edouard’. Boitard says it was grown from seed sent to Hardy in 1822, and later introduced as a plant by Neuman. ¹
