An antique, pioneer rose found on an abandoned homestead in Navasota, TX. Also a pass-along family heirloom rose amongst several TX tribes: Navasota, Tejas, Coahuiltec, etc.
This rose was reputedly produced by Navasota homesteaders who crossbred a Spanish red rose with a native american Dog Rose (Rosa canina)… Rosa canina is a common wild rose grown for food and medicine by the Navasota, Tejas, Coahuiltec, and other Texas tribes.
