How to grow Garden orache 'Red'

Keep evenly moist.

Try to plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Red is thought of as half hardy, so protect with a row cover whenever the temperatures drop.

Growing Red from seed

Germinates easily and grows quickly

Try to aim for a seed spacing of at least 3.9 inches (10.0 cm) and sow at a depth of around 0.04 inches (0.1 cm).

Transplanting Red

Ideally planted in a fertile, well drained garden bed enriched in organic matter. Mulch to conserve water. Enjoys a bright position to promote leaf growth

Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Red is a half hardy plant.

Harvesting Red

Cut approx. 20 cm from ground. Can also be harvested ‘Cut and Come again’ style as soon as big enough. Ensure that at least 5 leaves are left on each plant if using this method or plant will suffer.

This variety tends to be ready for harvesting by early summer.
