Prayer plant is part of the Calathea (Prayer plant) genus. Its scientific name is Calathea amabilis. The botanical name epithet for Prayer plant (amabilis) means 'beautiful looking'.

Evergreen rhizomatous perennials found in humid forests and at forests margins in tropical Central and South America and the West Indies. Red tubular flowers are rarely produced in cultivation.1

Very easy to grow. Loves warmth and bright light, however it can get burned if left out under direct summer sun. Bring in during frost and cold. Makes a lovely houseplant.
