Hi Aughty. What a beautiful picture. That critter is actually a Crane fly. They do look like a giant Mosquito. Around here they’re called Mosquito hawks.We have swarms of them in late winter to early spring. It’s said they eat Mosquitos, but that’s just a myth. In some species the adults don’t eat at all. In others they eat nectar. The larvae are considered pests in some regions, consuming plant roots and damaging turf.
