Seed Swaps

Tomato 'Dr. Wyche's Yellow' Seeds

From Baker Creek:

This heirloom was introduced to Seed Saver’s Exchange by the late Dr. John Wyche. At one time, he owned the Cole Brother Circus and used the elephant manure to fertilize his heritage gardens. The 1 lb fruit is solid and smooth. In color, they are a glowing, tangerine-orange that always stands out in the kitchen or off the vine. One of the best heirloom orange types for market with its smooth texture & tropical, sweet taste. Heavy yields.

From SSE:

Given to SSE by the late Dr. John Wyche, one of SSE’s earliest members. Dr. Wyche used to own Cole Brothers Circus which overwintered in Hugo, Oklahoma. He fertilized his terraced mountain-top gardens with elephant manure and scattered lion and tiger waste to keep out deer and rabbits. Heavy yields of 1 pound tomatoes with nice smooth shoulders on healthy plants. Meaty and rich tasting for a yellow-orange tomato.

Indeterminate, 75-85 days from transplant.

From Sand Hill:

Midseason, Indeterminate, Regular Leaf, good yield of about 1 pound fruits that are gold at maturity, sparse foliage, some green shoulders, nice balanced taste. Dr. Wyche was of Cherokee heritage and made available many Cherokee varieties of vegetables to SSE; he also lived near a zoo and used zoo doo for his lush gardens.
