Four of these plants appeared in the back on the right of Welcome, near the Daylily. They have hairy leaves and look like the Oriental Poppy plants I planted in Rhodo. I never did plant any poppies in this area though, and I have never had any poppies bloom in my gardens to be able to self-seed. This is the same place where the stray volunteer Bells of Ireland appeared. The photo on the left was June 19, 2008 and on the right July 26. No flowers this year, so we will have to wait probably until next spring to see if they return to find out if they really are poppies, but I am pretty sure that they are. These definitely look like Poppies.
UPDATE: June 1, 2009 – Now that they have bloomed they can definitely be identified as ‘Beauty of Livermere’ which were the seeds I sowed in 2007. I have updated the variety here from ‘Unknown.’
This planting is in the Welcome garden .
