Key Lime

My Southern California garden seemed naked without the presence of citrus trees. Now I have two, including a Eureka Lemon.

Citrus aurantifolia is native to Southeast asia and adapts well to the heat of my region. It is small and seedy, sour with a thin rind. The color of the ripe fruit is yellow, unlike the more common green and sweeter Persian limes. The flower blossoms are not fragrant as are most other citrus blossoms.

Synonyms for Citrus aurantifolia include Mexican Lime, Bartender’s Lime and West Indian Lime.

This lime is a key ingredient in Mojitos, a refreshing Cuban cocktail.

This planting is in the Patio garden .
