Your harvest looks great. I just picked up a few cosmic purple seeds, how did your carrots taste? Any tips?

  • Sidenote: Funny how carrots never look like the seed packets. :-)

So true! I think that over-fertilizing can lead to “hair-ier” carrots, and my interesting-looking multi-branched roots may have resulted from that. So a tip might be to not add any nitrogen fertilizer before planting. I find it fun to grow different colors of vegetables, and the cosmic purple are definitely a nifty color (orange in the middle, merlot on the outside). But I have to say that they weren’t my tastiest carrot, so at least in my garden there was a trade-off between appearance and flavor. They weren’t bad, just not quite as sweet and tasty as some other varieties (like rainbow which ranges from pale yellow to deep orange).
