I believe this “VW” tomato plant is Volgograd Winter, aka Volgograd.

“Winter” after the name Volgograd, because it does best in cool weather.

Interesting – especially as I’ve not bought any of that seed nor seen it listed for sale anywhere in UK. I have grown other Polish/Russian/Bulgarian cold tolerant types though which have performed well.

Bummer that it got blight. Did it seem to have any resistance at all?

I grew Volgograd Winter with a relative who lived in northern Michigan when I was a child… and it looked exactly like this! :)

Now how you got some without buying it is a bit of a mystery- perhaps you got it in a swap or someone sent you a few seeds as a bonus packet whilst you were doing a swap for something else?

Still, it’s a lovely tomato variety and rather uncommon. I got some seeds of it recently in a swap, and am thinking of planting some in memory of that dear departed relative who introduced me to this variety. :)
