A multicolored popcorn. From my breeding program. This is almost too long season for my garden, but I keep growing it, and working on shortening the days to maturity.
Lot #: 2012. Germination, 100% 2013-05-05. Quick germination.
Lot #:2013A. Germination 91% 2014-02.
This corn originated in 2009 as a cross between a highly inbred popcorn and a very genetically diverse population of Indian corn. In the 2010 and 2011 growing seasons it was allowed to promiscuously cross pollinate with gentle selection pressure to nudge it in the direction of better popping ability and higher productivity. After the 2012 and 2013 growing seasons heavy selection pressure was applied to select for cobs that pop extremely well. The selection criteria for the 2013 growing season was that every kernel in the test-pop batch had to pop. In addition notes were made about which cobs were easier to shell. This will be a primary driver next growing season in deciding which seeds to plant.
