Squash 'Burgess Buttercup' Seeds

95 days to harvest
A northern favorite! With a gray “button” on the blossom end, these fruits are dark green and best when picked at 3 to 5 pounds. The sweet, deep orange flesh of this winter squash is very rich. Each plant will produce 3 or 4 medium sized fruits.

Seven to 10 days for germination, 95 days to harvest after germination. After all danger of frost, in a sunny location, sow 5 seeds spaced evenly over a hill 9 to 12 inches tall and 24 inches in diameter. When plants are 3 inches tall, thin by cutting to the 3 strongest seedlings per hill. To avoid weeding, mulch heavily around plants and in between rows.

Don’t cut winter squash from the vine until firmly ripe (when you have a hard time making a dent in the shell with your thumbnail). Harvest before hard frost.
