White Hellebore        

These replace a previous specimen, which should be starting to peek through, by now, but isn’t… (maybe the slugs finally put paid to it?)

Hellebores ARE lovely, but they’re terribly promiscuous, and so, anything other than pure white ends up having sex and producing all sorts of unpredictable offspring. With white, you can let them self-seed all over the place, and end up with snowy white flowers in the darkest days of the year. Flowers January to March

They like full sun/partial shade and well-drained soil

EDIT: Just consulted the diary, and this didn’t actually show itself until half-way through February 2010, not flowering until the 3rd week March: So I could very well now have 3 of them!
