A while ago I planted some potatoes in tubs to grow on for Christmas lunch. They were kept outside until now. Today I moved them into the emptied greenhouse as frost has been forcast for this week.
I emptied the compost bin onto one of the raised beds and spread it over to allow the worms to draw it down through the winter. The chopped up bean plants have been mixed with newspaper, cardboard and grass clippings plus some windfall apples from the pond and piled into the empty bin along with the rootballs of the tomatoes from the greenhouse. Discovering that cardboard makes a wonderful addition to composting was a real revelation and since then my compost has been great.
