Slightly cooler

21 Jun 2010
Sunny 28°C / 82°F

It may be a couple of degrees cooler but it didn’t feel like it. Put the soaker hose on for about 3 hours. This garden dries out so quickly as soon as the weather gets hot, two big trees are probably the water gobblers. Only about 6 blooms on Rosa Alchemyst this year, unless it blooms later although as it is a one-flush bloomer I am not holding my breath. I am hoping that more sun and the strong new canes mark its recovery and next year it will be its usual mass of flowers.
The new thrift hybrid, Armeria Joystick Red is blooming although its blooms are not ping-pong ball sized more about the side of the larger thifts, it is on the west corner of Porch which is maybe not the best position as it is the windiest corner.
Clematis Golden Tiara has several flowers, which is odd as I think of this as a late flowering clematis.
Rosa Starry Night looking much better than previous years. Looking around town, this seems to be a very good year for roses.
The new Spanish Irises come in an interesting range of colours.
