Round of paper towel starts

13 May 2010
Indoors

For this week’s round of plantings, I’m trying to start them all indoors in a damp paper towel. After such success with the cucumber seeds, I’m curious how starting the seeds this way affects their growth compared to those sown directly outside. I’m guessing they grow faster started this way, and it seems like it will be really handy with the tiny carrot seeds; if they’re slightly sprouted I’ll actually be able to pick them up!

I started 6 belle peppers and will pick the best 2 to put outside, but these will live inside for 4-6 weeks before I put them out (image 3)

I didn’t start any extra spinach (image 5), but I did start 4 extra each of the two onions, and an unknown extra of the carrots but probably about 5-7 extra (image 4).

Sorry for the prints on the paper towels, I was out of all white ones.
