What is this plant?

We took over an allotment and we don’t know if this should be here, or if it is a weed?

A Cyperus grass, more correctly a sedge. There are several hundred species; but you try with C polystachyus or C involucratus.

Without question a Cyperus; add to the possibilites C lucidus.

I am with South Sun Spot: It’s a sedge. They grow like weeds – well, they are weeds! :)

Sedges also say something about the soil that you have in the allotment.
As to being weeds, well it depends on which sedge, there are ornamental sedges for gardens.

It looks like a beautiful plant. I say stick it in a pot and use it as an ornamental in a container garden.
