Lobelia planted in hanging baskets

03 Jun 2012
Partly Sunny 18°C / 64°F

This evening I finally got around to putting my Lobelia, ‘Fountain Mixed’ in my hanging baskets on the balcony. I also have a couple of wall pouches but didn’t have enough plants to fill both of them.

This will be the first time I’ve planted them in the wall pouches. Most years I’ve planted ‘Busy Lizzies’ in them & they have always given me great pleasure till late October/early November. This year I haven’t been able to find any decent plugs of them in the supermarkets like other years. Therefore I used about 10 Lobelia plugs in just one of the 2 wall pouches I have.

That’s a very cool wall grow-bag. Never seen one before. Planted very nicely too. :)

I’ve been using them for about 10 or 11 years now! Most years I’ve grown Busy Lizzies in them but one or two years I think I’ve grown other plants but I can’t remember what now!

They are made of strong green plastic & can last for years. They have 10 slits in the front side arranged in 2 lines to make planting easy. Though I find the holes rather small & have to make them a little bigger.

Did you notice the white piece sticking up at the top of the pouch? It’s a plastic tube I drilled lots of holes in & inserted into the centre of the pouch when filling it up with compost. This makes it easier to water as then the water reached all the compost.
