Seed Swaps

1st few 'Rocket' spuds

04 Jun 2012
Cloudy 16°C / 61°F

Today I dug up 2 potato ‘Rocket’ plants on my own allotment, Plot 12A, which I planted out at the beginning of March. The resultant few potatoes I found hardly made the effort worthwhile. I was disappointed to find so few spuds & so small.

The bed had been manured during the autumn & the seed potatoes were sprouted in the greenhouse on Gerry’s allotment. I planted the sprouted seed potatoes at the very beginning of March & then, between my brother & myself, we made hoops to support fleece. They survived the odd frost we had between March & May but I now fear the fleece provided too much protection as the plants have grown very tall & are falling over each other.

But quality over quantity, I hope they tasted nice. :)
