Seed Swaps

I love this garden right now....

A few years back I started covering the grass around a sweet gum tree in my back yard with 2 inches of compost in an oval shape. I wasn’t a fan of the tree but I also did not want to just take it down. I made the oval small enough I could easily touch the center of the tree from most spots. Then I started planting small Purple Coneflower Echinacea. Over the last 3-4 years I have added more and more perennial plants. Simple classic daises, a patch of lambs ear, multiple parsley plants going to seed and a Mexican sunflower. The Echinacea have thrive and I have divided them a few times and received a few new clumps from their seedheads.

With most things in bloom right now I just love this garden….

It IS a lovely garden! :)

Yes, such a pretty garden. The image shows it in shade. Does it get any sun? I only ask because the echinacea looks sooo happy. Dare I stretch the boundaries of growing my echinacea?

@RosemarieGardener…. The shade is from the Sweet gum tree they grow under with a small canopy. I have often contemplating taking the tree down. Short term, I have cut all the lower branches. Now the lowest branch is 10’ from the ground.

As a result with the exception of the small canopy for the most part they are in full sun. Concerning stretching boundaries… I say go for it. Nature will tell you over time if it will work or not.
