Far From Dry......

04 May 2012
Cloudy 16°C / 61°F

…..but it has stopped raining. And, as the day goes on, it becomes brighter. But, there will be no significant work done in the garden today.

Got an image of my stinging nettles for my meager harvest today which I will eat for lunch. Tomorrow, I will harvest a BIG bunch of it to serve my lady friends. I don’t normally like to experiment with dinner/pot luck guests but these are my lady-sister-friends and so I feel comfortable. I will toss lightly with olive oil, chopped garlic, salt and a good dose of black pepper. This is how I roast my kale but I never thought to try the nettles this way until I went to a pot luck last week where it was featured in a dish of roasted kale, dandelion leaves and stinging nettle leaves. So…..I’m game!

Images:

  1. stinging nettles
  2. one of my favorite rocks; located in House South Garden; lichen growing.
  3. Ninebark shrub again with Medusa garden ornament. I didn’t realize how much I would like this image when I took it.
  4. Lungwort at it’s peak
  5. Doronicum blooming

I have been toying with the idea of making nettle soup as I heard that nettles are good for helping with rheumatoid arthritis, but it is DH that has it and I am not sure he would go for it.
the pot luck dish sounds good.

I think I’ll have to be brave and try harvesting the nettles about now. I’ve never tried them before but I think I’ll try making a frittata with them. Do let us know how the roasted nettle turns out.

How lovely to have friends that will try different things. I have also seen nettles used in lasagne, but have not eaten them myself. Lovely rock and the lungwort is magnificent!
