beautiful day

15 Apr 2012
Cloudy 20°C / 68°F

Today was a beautiful spring day here in the northeast ……we got to turning over the weeds in the garden and let the chicks help us a bit in that department …..although…..in reality …. they actually watched us do the soil turning while they dove in for the worms ……We finished the pen around the hen house so tomorrow they will be able to go out in their own yard and not have to be confined to the fenced garden …..Last night we placed them for the first time into their hen house …..I was a nervous wreck and kept going out to check on them every time I heard a little noise ….They did great and the large feeders are staying clean YAY!!! We planted some more grape vines this afternoon as we make home made grape juice every summer and I also got ambitious enough to put in some peas …..`may you all have a productive and fun weekend ….the photos are of the girls learning to use the ladder this morning

It seems that the ‘girls’ settled in very easily. All that worrying was for nothing … Mum!! It sounds like you’re having some wonderful weather at the moment and enjoying getting out doing lots of jobs around theplace.

I think your chicks must be just a week or two ahead of mine. And you’re not crazy for running out to check on them in the coop. I’m starting to think about having mine in their pasture shelter within a week or two and even though I’m going to build the shelter with hardware cloth and have it inside an electronet fence I think I’ll still worry about them!

We bought new chickens this morning, and I can’t but check on them every other minute… or at least every 20 minutes… I know it seems ridiculous, but I find it so exciting to observe how those new birds are exploring there new home!
I’m sure yours really appreciate the new henhouse!
