At least, I’m reasonably sure that’s what the squirrels think.
DW and I were at the garden this evening… gee, there’s a first. 0-:-) With the potentially record hot tomorrow I figured this evening would be a good time to toss the pump in the creek and water the rows a bit and I finally got the salad row all weeded out.
So. Here comes a gray squirrel bouncing across the back of the yard headed for… wait for it… the strawberry bed. Hops up on the back log of the bed then up on the stump.
I didn’t pick strawberries last night so there would be more ripe ones to pick this evening. DW wanted fresh berries and ice cream tonight. :-) There was a pretty fair pile of ‘em sitting there red ripe under that netting. The strawberries didn’t need it, but I had ice cream with mine anyhow. Delicious.
The squirrel then proceeded to… I guess the best way to put it is to say it walked out on the netting, then just stood there – floating in midair – for a bit. It looked down at the berries, looked at us, looked down again and then just stood there for not quite a minute. It got back on the tree stump and walked the rest of the way across the yard.
From the way it did it while we were watching, I get the feeling it has been doing that all day.
Ok, so I’m evil. ;-)
