Seed Swaps

First Week of June Update!

02 Jun 2011
Sunny 19°C / 66°F

I planted two more radish seeds this morning. Wet the soil really well before hand, made an indentation and dropped them in. didn’t soak these one first. I have no idea if it makes a difference or not with seeds so small. I guess we’ll see. The others didn’t so so well. Two others died and the third is all top hanging by a root hair. Damned if I can see how it hangs on.
All the lettuce died at the beginning of the week with that intense heat and humidity. I’ll loosen the soil and plant some peas in there I suppose and try the lettuce again later, when it’s hot enough outside that I need the air conditioning on inside.
Over the summer, we’re going to be working on an indoor garden. There will be a permanent patio planter inside, with a grow bulb aimed at it to augment the light from the patio door. I’m not sure yet how successful it’ll be but we’ll find out.

We’re not going to plunge into the worm composter (pardon my wording) until we’ve moved back up north. We don’t want to kill them with the vibration and stress of a 12 hour long drive. In the meantime, I’ll experiment with green cover crops and compst in a bucket.
