New Property

Well I have finally moved in. I joined Folia a couple of months ago when I signed a contract for a new property in Kangaroo Ground, Melbourne and have just been monitoring it until I actually moved in and had a good look around the garden to see what has to be done. Have been here 1 1/2 weeks and all looks great. Heaps of natives, Wisteria growing up the verandahs. Lots of lavender and 20 acres of bushland just to admire. Vege patch ready to go. Just have to fix the fence as my new 9 week old Border Collie puppy has pretty much destroyed the small bit of wire around it that I think was trying to keep the local bunny population out. All good, plenty of time to do that and make a dog pen for poor little Barney so he does not destroy anything else. Have a fig tree in one part of the garden and also three fruit trees growing in the chicken pen, which my gorgeous Isla Browns, Barbie, Buella and Sprinkles and there Leghorn friend Bonkers are happily settled into, scratching around and fertilising. The fruit trees are another Fig, Nectarine and Apple. Hoping to grow some different fruit trees and heaps of veg. Eventually would like to only have to visit the supermarket to get the basics I can’t grow myself. As time is an issue as I have two daughters 6 and 3. It will be a slow but satisfying pasttime. Anyone that is in the area or similar type of property that could offer any tips on anything from chopping wood to mass mulching/ Fertilising, I would be grateful. Never lived on such a big property before, but very much looking forward to the challenge.
