Finally some decent weather

26 Apr 2011
21°C / 69°F

So, spring has been kind of crappy with San Fran-like cold and fog. Until today when it was almost 80 with no transition whatsoever. On the nice days I have been putting my seedlings out for an hour or 2. Otherwise, they are in the basement under the flourescent lights. Some of them seem to be at a standstill in terms of growth. Not sure if I am using the wrong lights, or if it is not warm enough. The tomatoes, ground cherries, and lemon bergamot are still so tiny. But the cucs and eggplant seem to be doing fine.

Meanwhile in the yard, one 2 pea seeds have sprouted and are about 6-7 inches high. Also what I believe to be spinach has sprouted in the cold frame but none of the others have sprouted yet. Garlic is doing good.

On the indoors front, I have finally sprouted an avocado pit! I have been trying for years. Maybe the key is to not give up and throw it away after a few weeks. I didn’t keep track of how long it was sitting there, but it was at least 3-4 weeks. It now has a root, no leaves.

Nice to see the weather warmed up a little. Great news about your avocado … obviously your patience paid off.
