I wasn’t sure whether I was going to have a place to plant these this year since my original location turned out to get very soggy after a rain. But my brother volunteered for a garden task while visiting this weekend, I asked him to remove a stump from this bed (which he kindly agreed to do), and then I removed a bunch of roots, removed sod to enlarge the bed, removed 4 wheelbarrow-fulls of soil (since soil was spilling over onto the brick patio), added 3 wheelbarrow-fulls of compost, added a sprinkling of organic fertilizer, mixed in the amendments, planted the seeds, and watered them in.
I found lots of contradictory advice regarding spacing for these. I spaced the rows about 12" apart, and the seeds about 4" apart in the rows. I’ll decide on final spacing after I see how well the seeds germinate. If anyone has grown this variety of corn before and has spacing recommendations, I’d love to hear them!
