Amaryllis 'Pinky' flowering

Amaryllis ‘Pinky’ began flowering a week ago & now I have 5 flowers open on the stem! It’s the ONLY one to produce so many flowers on one scape this year – so far at least!

So here is a the first photo I took of the flowers just starting to open just before being moved to the living room:

Here is another photo as the first one is wrong (any excuse to post another one!) as I took that one yesterday when almost all the 5 flowers were open.

This then will be the one I took while it was still on the bedroom windowsill:

I can’t get the photo to upload & appear here! Very frustrating!

I think the reason is that the original file name had a “#” in it. I used it as an abbreviation of the word “number”. I’ll know to be more careful in the future & remove “#” before trying to upload a photo!

Sadly, for this year, Pinky has finished flowering! ;-(( Nevertheless it gave me one stem with 5 flowers all of which were fabulous!

I repotted it in fresh compost this year & separated the offsets & planted them in a pot to themselves. It will be a couple of years yet before they reach flowering size but I look forward to have more of this lovely Amaryllis!

My Amaryllis ‘Pinky’ has flowered again this year! :-)) It has only had four flowers on one stem but I think there is a 2nd stem rising from the bulb!

I’m not sure because on Wednesday 11th March I had to move all my plants from our bedroom & the living room table to put them all on the table in the corner of the balcony.

We needed to do this because our youngest son & his family have come over from Spain to stay with us while they find their own house & jobs! It has never bothered my wife that I fill the bedroom windowsill with 3 tiers of pots of Amaryllis for 6 months of the year! But she says in Spain they believe it is unhealthy to have plants in the bedroom during the night – well we have had them in our bedroom for many years & we are as healthy as we have ever been! It’s just a superstition that people believe without ever thinking about it. They say it removes the oxygen from the air – which may be true, but not enough to affect a human being (or two!) The plants may in fact suffer more from the oxygen WE remove from the air!

My Amaryllis ‘Pinky’ seems to hold up better outside on the balcony table that the others. One thing I’ve noticed about this one plant is that the flowers seem a lot darker growing outside than when growing inside! As I have no more plants of this variety growing or flowering inside I can’t really compare – I only have my memory to go on!

It’s now March 2016 & ‘Pinky’, or what I took for ‘Pinky’, is flowering again – only it’s not the original bulb I was sent by Armorel several years ago. That one hasn’t shown up so far this year! No, this is a different bulb as I’ve never had a pink Amaryllis before – other than ‘Pinky’. This is the first time it has flowered! Only the flowers are distorted! The lower petal hasn’t formed or hasn’t formed properly. On the pot I’ve written “Red with white veining” but that is clearly wrong! It’s actually white diffused with pink veining & a white stripe down the middle of the petals – very pretty & unusual – at least for me!

The bulb has just three flowers but has produced several offsets which are distorting the pot! That means I will have to remove the offsets, repot them & the mother bulb.
