Some weeks ago I was given a Dianthus ‘Megan’ by Dick, a friend from church. It was originally bought by a neighbour of his who decided they no longer wanted it & so it passed to Dick’s hands. Although he accepted it he realized he didn’t have room for it as he doesn’t have a garden. He has a tiny bungalow & can only put plants around the outside, on the concrete surround.
I put it on our balcony & it seems to be doing alright at present.
It seems I was a bit hasty when I wrote the above post as a few days later I noticed that the plant didn’t look as good as it had done before within a couple of weeks it was completely dead! I thought perhaps I had overwatered it but when I emptied the plant out it didn’t seem to be soggy at all. There were no signs of Vine weevil damage as the roots seemed to be intact & I didn’t see any grubs. So I don’t know why it died. There were lots of new buds forming just before it died as well.So I find it a mystery as to why it should have died on me so suddenly.
I’ve added the very last photo I have of it where it looks really healthy & is full of buds.
