Last post as group caretaker!

I have decided to stop being the caretaker for this group as since I no longer have my own plot & I have hardly helped Gerry this year, & he has decided to give up the main plot, I have nothing to contribute any longer.

September he gave up his half plot but he has decided he can no longer find the time to maintain an allotment &, as he has a big garden at home, with a greenhouse, where he can also grow some veg, he will no longer use it.

He has given away his shed & greenhouse on the allotment so I will make a last trip down there to see if there is anything of mine I have left there.

I’ve enjoyed my time as an allotmenteer & will look back on that time with fondness & a little nostalgia!

So this will be my last post in this group.

Oh, that’s sad… do you have any plans to do gardening elsewhere?

It is sad, Motherhen, as I enjoyed it while I had it! But there are ever more demands on my time & anyway neither my wife nor I are particularly keen on veg – especially the green variety! My wife likes lettuce but even she has hardly eaten any this last year. I grew runner beans just so we could put them in our winter purée but neither of us likes the texture of them in our mouths. I liked growing Tomatoes but when they are just ripening blight comes along & kills them off! This past year I’ve hardly been more than once a month for a couple of hours & now that Gerry has decided he’s not going to use his allotment any more I have no further plans of continuing with allotment gardening.

I shall not give up growing plants, but I will no longer grow any veg, apart from tomatoes on the balcony, just as I’ve done these past 15 years. I also grew tomatoes on our balconies in Spain for many years.
