Lettuce 'Jade Gem' and Spring 2013 garden

I’ve noticed some brown spots and discolouration on my three-week-old lettuce seedlings today. Not sure why or how to avoid this from happening, or if it’s even a concern to begin with?

I didn’t put any seeds out until April 20th, which was too late. Generally speaking, I would like to be planting seeds indoors on April 1st. Also, when am I going to learn to buy the seed starter mix!! I keep buying potting soil. I also know that you should water seeds from the bottom up...Mostly Cloudy 8°C / 46°F

The Tomato seedlings are looking good. Some are starting to show true leaves, all that are going to sprout are sprouted I think. I see some roots starting to stick out around the edges, which means things are good at this point. These will likely need transplanted by early next week.
