Spring at last? This is Michigan, who knows.

I just cleaned my front pond and out came the Doves, Robins and Finches to tell me how happy they were to see me. Well, actually they weren’t happy to see me, but they were thrilled to see the filled bird feeders and bird bath. I might be done cleaning the front yard by next week.

    Birdemic

Spinach Beet , Lettuces , Celtuce Lettuce , Extra Dwarf Pak Choy , Chinese Pak Choy , and Big Lower Lasagna...
This no dig stuff seems to be attracting more birds and more varied birds to my backyard. Today I saw a Downy Woodpecker shimmying up my lilac, and a Spotted Towhee taking a bath in my birdbath. For my urban, sort of run down neighborhood (one block off Portland’s undeservedly infamous NE 8...

    New neighbors

Spotted another new bird in the garden today — it’s a wood thrush, which we’ve never seen in our neighborhood at all. It investigated for a long while in the morning, then came back in the afternoon with a 2nd wood thrush and they hung about for a couple of hours. We’re ho...
