Last year the leaves were like lace, and I knew it was trouble, but they still (miraculously, really) bloomed well. This year, there’s been about 3 weeks of rain with little sunshine, and the leaves are completely gone except for the ribs – they look like such sad skeletons. There i...Overcast 21°C / 69°F
Red Raspberry Harvesting and Food garden
I’m certain I’ve just made the largest raspberry harvest of the season, and ever! A full pint! YES. One of the berries had a small, gray inchworm-type caterpillar on it. It had interesting little markings down its back, too. Don’t know what it was.20°C / 68°F
I have pink, PINK! borage? On the same plant as the blue flowers …. what’s up with that?Cloudy 16°C / 61°F
It grows like its own small forest — individual stalks coming from deep underground. I’ve cut it down to the surface level and it grows right back. I’ve dug down and cut at the roots and it grows right back. Looks like I’ll need a backhoe to get to the bottom of it. It...Cloudy 33°C / 91°F
Unknown Succulent and Our Forest Retreat garden
This plant was found on our mountain property in the dead of winter. In the picture you can see it is covered in ice. It is apparently some kind of succulent and looks somewhat like Lamb’s ears. It has a very flat growing habit. This picture was actually taken in Dec of 2002.Cloudy 33°C / 91°F
Climbing Zucchini/ Kletterzucchini "Black Forest"
I was sooo happy with my zucchini, but some days ago they just stopped growing and assumed a really weird shape: there develops a big knob at the top and and the bottom turns yellow and goes bad. What the heck is happening here? Does anyone have an idea what the problem is?Sunny 27°C / 81°F
Frontyard garden and Pink Rose
Do cabbage worms eat roses? I found this soft, green worm on one of my rose buds, chomping away. It looks exactly like a cabbage worm. I couldn’t get a good picture of him, it was too dark. Notice the foliage too — the leaves have been chewed from the outside edge in, just like a c...Overcast 27°C / 80°F
A bunch of my tomatoes have this on their bottom leaves. I am hoping it is just because they are on the bottom and don’t get much sun, but I don’t have much experience with tomatoes.
Is there a way to update milestones without adding a new journal entry? I can’t find a direct link to update milestones for each planting. TIY.24°C / 76°F
Serpentine garden , Apple tree Harvesting, Nasturtium, by tomatoes Thinning Out, and Tomato- Early Girl Se...
Only Nasturtiums from the Serpentine today. Mostly a progress report. Cut off one of the broccoli heads that was again getting tall and not large, and seemed to be about to turn from floret to flower. It might just be the variety however. The next one I’m going to just let go. They are ...Sunny 28°C / 83°F
