    Basil, Thai
I planted out my basil seedlings into window boxes and containers and started putting them outside during the day to harden off. Many of them look withered and dry. They are getting plenty of water. Any ideas? Shock of transplant? Shock of being outside? Too much water? I’ve done basil seed...

    Cape Primrose
This is a house plant given to me as a gift from a work colleague. She’s not sure what it is – some help to identify would be much appreciated! It has substantial fleshy leaves which feel fury to the touch. It currently has a small flower which you can see in the picture and a secon...

I had a chance try some of the leaves today and they are bitter even thought these plants are quite young. I don’t understand how this happened. They have not bolted. They were planted from seeds less than two months.and mostly less than 5 inches high. Any chance the taste will improve if I...

I didn’t make a fresh journal entry on the 13th because I was lazy. In any case, I harvested 4 radishes and tons of spinach. (main picture). I also harvested one mustard leaf, which was good, because I needed a really big leaf to carry the big spider outside that came in on the spinach. ...

    What's eating my hibiscus?

I found holes all over my hibiscus leaves today. There were two tiny round things stuck to one of the leaves. They looked like little translucent eggs. Something had clearly hatched out of each. It was hard to get a good picture of these. My camera doesn’t do macro shots well. I saw som...

    Houston, we have a problem!

    Japanese Honeysuckle and Courtyard garden
I’ve looked up loads of information about problems with honeysuckle but nothing seems to be shedding any light. If anyone can give me an idea of what’s causing the brownish-grey patches on the leaves (not all leaves though: new growth seems to be ok), I’d appreciate it. The stem...

    Weed or keeper?

A couple of these are coming up. Very woody stems, quite shrublike. I don’t hate the idea of keeping it, but I can’t for the life of me figure out what it is. The one pictured is currently knee-high, about 10" diameter.
