    mystery bush

    Reykjavik (in the north) garden
Does anyone know what this is? Very small green-turning-black/purple berries, purple-edged leaves, darkish bark, tiny white flowers with yellow center. Started life as a stick stuck in the ground to mark where I’d planted a jerusalem artichoke. Sprouted and grew wildly. I’ve seen it e...

What's wrong with my strawberries and peppers?

Strawberries , Front Yard 2009 garden , Sweet Bell Pepper , and Jalapeno
My strawberries seem to have acquired some sort of leaf spots or burn. I’ve started treating them (and all of my plants) with an organic fungicide and clearing out the particularly bad leaves, but I’m worried that this might spread to my other plants. I’ll definitely be destroyi...

    When to harvest?

Vegetable & Fruit garden , Raphanus sativus - Radish 'Cherry Belle' , Daucus carota subsp. sativus - Carrot...
I have had a veggie garden for several years, and do pretty well. But this is the first year that I really attempted to grow vegetables whose roots/bulbs are to be harvested. I’ve been reading a lot of posts on various garden forums about some things already bolting, and although I don’t think we...

    Various blights

    Mint and Phlox
Any information anyone has about what’s doing this to various plants, and what I can do about it, I’d be in your debt. Main picture and first picture: Potted mint (fresh potting mix, my compost and commercial soil), and cilantro volunteers (entirely different section of the garden, u...

    Sweet Alyssum

    Sweet Alyssum and Balcony garden
Doesn’t look as nice as when I bought the pack of seedlings a few weeks ago. I potted them last week and found the roots too dry and intertwined to divide them. In the 10" pot they have some more room, but I’m concerned it’s not enough. They’re kind of brown and dry o...

Eggplant - Purple Blush or Rosa Bianca??

    Eggplant - Purple Blush Harvesting
Is anyone familiar with either of these two eggplants? When I do a search on google for each one I get photos of what looks like to me the same plant. The light purple fading into a white. Some show more or less purple. At several of the seed sites I checked they sell one or the other. Burpee ...

    Hardening off process

So I started hardening the tomatos off on May 24th, putting them out for an hour or two at a time then bringing them back in… fine things were good… then I put them out for longer and things were goodish- they got stockier which was excellent, but they also got a little “sunburn...

    What is this beetle?

I have a Virginia creeper which has tons of tiny shiny black beetles on it. The leaves are full of small holes, so I assume the beetles are eating them. The picture shows two beetles enthusiastically making even more beetles. There are round white/clear eggs stuck to the underside of the leaves (...

    Unknown Plant =/

I think it’s a type of gladiolus but I don’t know for sure: it’s never bloomed (is in a shady spot and all the corms are shallow, about 2 inches). It’s come back for the 3rd year in a row, the foliage is light green and very grass like. The plants themselves are happy and ...

    Damping off??

Portulaca punnet Dying Down and Greenhouse garden
The portulacas seem to be damping off as some of them have fallen over. B Not sure if it is too hot for them in the greenhouse, or the bottom watering is keeping them too wet? Bit disappointing because I had saved this seed from bought portulaca plants.
