Hi folks,

Anyone know of an effective organic way of controlling/getting rid of white fly, They have completely smothered my brocolli plant and have recently set camp on my brasiccas - Brocolli, Kale and Cabbage. Touch the leaves of the plant and there is a cloud of white!

Also, any ideas at what temperature they will not survive - just wondering with Winter setting in whether they might not survive?

This summer I added some very beautiful healthy Knock Out Roses to my circular Perennial garden. They started out very well but as time has gone on, they have steadily declined. I'm totally perplexed as to their decline. They are in well fertilized mulched soil that iris and alliums are thriving in. They are in a sunny location that receives regular scheduled waterings. I'm concerned that perhaps the alliums that the roses are in the same bed with, maybe Stifling the lives of the roses. Another culprit that maybe effecting the roses growth are the mature black walnut trees that are located about 30 feet away. Can anyone provide some information that can assist me in providing these roses a healthier life? I'd love to see them grow as I know they are able.

I received a Charles Joly Lilac plant as a gift, and am unsure if I should go ahead an plant in as the winter months are coming. I live in South Carolina, near the North Carolina border (Charlotte). Our winters are not typically harsh - thanks for ANY help! I am not the best when it comes to a green thumb. I do have planting instructions.

Hi there, I'm new :)

I saw you can do seed swaps on folia, and i was just wondering how many seeds to you send to someone for a swap?

I'm a newbie gardener so I don't even really know how many seeds someone uses to plant something with really, so this is why I'm asking! And if I were to do a swap in the future, I want to make sure I wasn't skimping someone.

So hypothetically, if I swapped jalapeno seeds for basil seeds, how many would I send to the other person? (Just picked random plants)

Thanks,
Lindsey

Does anyone know what could be wrong with my Portulica?

It used to be in the 'Chucks Front Door' garden, but it is not frost hardy so I brought it inside. Before I lifted it I noticed that it was a little bit wilted and I thought perhaps a chicken had sat on it. However, it has been inside in the cold conservatory for about 3 weeks and it is rapidly loosing all its leaves. It is still looks wilted but does not need watering.

Before I brought it inside, I had taken some cuttings and these seem fine. I am wondering if it had been affected by the cold even though there has not yet been a frost? I don't think it is supposed to be an inside plant and I'm not sure how to revive it! It is very tempting to give it a good 'haircut' as there seem to be small side shoots developing. However, the side shoots are also wilty :(

Looking through my seed catalogs, the 2010 Farmer's Almanac and over my plot plan for the Country Garden #2 next spring. So far I have a replant of the Lima beans I grew for seed this year, a watermelon cross I bred this summer, more cantaloupe and at least eight rows of corn.

My question: Does anyone have a preference of SE/se or sh2 type hybrid corns? I'm currently looking at Precocious and Supersweet Jubilee, both from Territorial Seed Company. I've tried heirloom varieties in the past but have far too small a garden to attempt two varieties due to cross breeding concerns. Ideally I'd like to plant an early crop and stagger a second by 28-30 days.

This is 10% off. Is it worth buying? We don't want an open composter because it might be unsightly given we don't really have a separate backyard. Wasn't going to compost the leaves, just the leftovers from this year's garden (tomato plant etc) and kitchen scraps. Does that not even work because of this brown/green thing? My garden's not that big anyway...

10% off sale until Nov. 1 so am trying to decide here...
