How to grow Chives 'Staro'

  • Full Sun

  • Medium

Try to plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Staro is thought of as hardy, so it can be safe to leave outdoors for the majority of winter (although if in doubt, using a row cover is often a good idea). Ideally plant in sandy, clay and peat-rich soil and try to keep the ph of your soil between the range of 5.2 and 8.3 as Staro likes to be in weakly acidic soil to weakly alkaline soil.

Growing Staro from seed

Aim to sow 0.51 inches (1.3 cm) deep and try to ensure a gap of at least 0.98 inches (2.5 cm). Soil temperature should be kept higher than 15°C / 59°F to ensure good germination.

By our calculations, you should look at sowing Staro about 28 days before your last frost date.

Transplanting Staro

Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Staro is a hardy plant.

Harvesting Staro

This variety tends to be ready for harvesting by mid summer.
